BPSWA 2016 Bus Parade

For the last two years' the Bus Preservation Society has Paraded the available buses from its collection.  With over 40 in the fleet at Whiteman Park (counting all buses there are almost 60 but many are waiting restoration or refurbishment and some are held off site due to a lack of storage space) the number of available operation buses can vary from 5 or 6 to about 12 on any one day.  It's difficult for our volunteers to maintain all the 'operational' fleet as 'available' all the time as small items (and sometimes larger items such as engines or gearboxes) often fail and are difficult to replace or repair.  When new models of buses or different manufacturers replace the older buses having completed their operational life, suppliers stop stocking the spares for those buses.  As all our buses are at least 25 years old (as that age is what defines a bus as historic) the number of 'off the shelf' spares becomes scarce!    In some cases, the buses we hold are the only examples in WA or Australia and in one notable case, thought to be the only known model left in the world.  Many of our buses are held as a source of spares for the operational fleet.  It only takes a broken light lens to take a bus off the road.  So the opportunity to 'exercise' our available buses and show them off to the public, is a cherished event.
Last year (2015) we had 9 buses in the parade.  In this years' Bus Parade we managed again, to put 9 buses on the road with the list different from that paraded in 2015, plus two additional buses (MTT 1048 and 1047) which are privately owned by members of the German Omnibus Society (who are also members of our Society).  These buses were a very welcome addition to the parade.
This year also, we were fortunate in having Michael Phillips and his son Alex, film the cavalcade and they have produced a very professional and delightfully different view of the buses.  They have very generously provided the individual photos and video shown below.  I hope you enjoy this year's offering.#  PS is you would like to join in the fun why not consider joining the Society?  Details can be found here!
