All About the Bus Preservation Society of WA (Inc)

Our Vision

Our Vision is for the continued development of BPSWA through the collection and preservation of heritage public transport vehicles and the conservation of the widest possible representative group of buses from the beginning of public transport in WA.
We also had a dream that we would transform the society into a Nationally recognised and accredited Collection of Operating and Display Buses.  With the help of a Community Heritage Grant from the National Library (in Canberra) we employed a consultant who assessed the complete Collection of Buses, artefacts and other memorabilia and submitted an assessment of the collection. This was reviewed and accepted and the collection was recognised as one of Nationally Historic Significance for Australia. Subsequently, we received a second Community Heritage Grant, this time to assess the Preservation Needs of the collection. Each group of items considered under the previous Grant, the manner and conditions in which they were currently preserved, and their future preservation and storage needs were evaluated by the consultant, a qualified conservator with experience in this area. This produced a list of recommendations as to how the items should be preserved, and improvements needed in equipment, facilities and techniques required to ensure the long term preservation of our collection.  It's a long list and requires considerable resources to fully implement but the Society has committed to the process and will, over the coming years implement all the recommendations as resources permit.

We envisage that in the longer term we will have our own permanent display area, archive, and visitor facilities or participate in a shared facility with other Transport groups located within the Park.  These facilities would meet our obligations to provide the best possible access, participation, experience and education facilities we could deliver to our stakeholders; the visitors to the State, the WA Public, our members, donors and sponsors.  This would include permanent onsite covered storage for all the buses in our collection and an expanded capacity in display, maintenance and restoration facilities.  That's the dream at least, as we set about turning this dream into reality.
This BPSWA vision also includes a commitment to the Transport Heritage Group concept and will mean that BPSWA will continue to contribute toward the development of Whiteman Park and its member groups as an Internationally recognised Transport themed facility for the enjoyment and education of the Western Australian public and visitors to the State.
